Today’s Text: Galatians 3:13-14
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

What Is The Curse?
Biblically, the curse is the consequence of not keeping God’s commandments.
The first 14 verses of Deuteronomy chapter 28, enumerates the beautiful rewards of keeping God’s commandments, however the remaining verses don’t sound so pleasant- they line- list numerous consequences of not keeping the law.
To put it succinctly, the curse meant sickness, poverty, death. It also meant a stagnancy or reduction in numbers especially of a population.
Sad news is- nobody could keep all of God’s laws – it was just impracticable to not falter in over 600 commandments; because failing in one law meant failure in all (Psalm 53:1-3, Galatians 3:11, Romans 3:10). So the entire humanity was under the curse.
But all that changed when Jesus died and resurrected.
You Don’t Have The Curse: It’s on The Cross
One of the reasons Jesus died on the cross was to settle the requirements of the law forever! Today’s text tells us how He did it ….
“The law says we are under a curse for not always obeying it. But Christ took away that curse. He changed places with us and put himself under that curse. The Scriptures say, “Anyone who is hung on a tree is under a curse.”
Galatians 3:13 ERV
Friends, an exchange took place when Jesus hung on that cross- He changed places with us – He became the curse !
He became sickness…
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:5 NKJV
He became poverty…
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”
II Corinthians 8:9 NKJV
He Died For Us…
“For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:7-8 NKJV
Jesus changed places with us and became everything the curse represents!
So friends, you don’t have the curse; because Jesus hung it on the cross.
Colossians 2:14 says; Jesus Nailed The Requirements of the law to the cross….
“Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross.”
Colossians 2:14 AMPC
He canceled, blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of requirements that were against us (referring to the law). He cleared it completely out of the way by Nailing It To The Cross!
You don’t have the curse; it’s on the cross….
Instead of the curse, you have the Blessing (Galatians 3:14, Genesis 1:26).
In place of sickness, you have health.
In place of poverty, you have riches
In place of death, you have eternal life.
Halleluyah!!!
He changed places with me, I don’t have the curse, it’s on the cross. Sickness is on the cross. Poverty is on the cross. Death is on the cross.
