“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
What Is Law of Christ ?
The Law of Christ is the law of Love.
John 13:34 says….
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
When we keep this law of Christ, we fulfill the whole law because Love is the fulfillment of the law. Love is the answer to all the ‘Thou Shall Nots’ of the 10 Commandments. Because love does no harm to his neighbor.
“Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” Romans 13:10 NKJV
What Burden are we to bear with one another?
The burden being talked about in Galatians 6:2, is that of sin, of falling into sin, of slipping into sin, of spiritual weakness, of dealing according to the flesh. Not habitually sinning but slipping into sin.
Brethren struggling with sin need a conducive, loving environment to thrive, and grow their faith. So the more mature Christian needs to be more accommodating, more understanding, less judgmental. We need to commit to restoring them into the faith. This ought to be done in the spirit of gentleness and love. We should not become too righteous than God, we should not become more holy than God. Forgiving, restoring and embracing the backsliding believer helps them settle back into the Christian fold.
However if a Christian repeatedly and consciously chooses to live in sin, at some point we have to cut the person off ( 1 Corinthians 5:5).
The backsliding person also needs to stand up and decide to live above sin. Crucify the flesh, choose to walk in the Spirit, this is how to live above sin.
To walk in the Spirit is to walk in love and all the fruit of the spirit listed in Galatians 5:22. When we walk in the spirit we cannot sin, because the Holy Spirit will always lead us to glorify Christ, rather than to sin.
