The Trinity: Deity
I am yet to find the word ‘trinity’ in my Bible. Please direct me if it’s in yours…. 🙂 Yet this word is commonly used to denote the existence of 3 persons in the Godhead- God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. This is truthfully so because different parts of my Bible, lends credence to the existence of a God existing as 3 persons- the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16-17, Matthew 28:19, John 14:20).
These 3 make up the deity, they existed together in the beginning and though existing as 3 distinct persons with distinct roles, they exist as one.
As deity, God is all-powerful (omnipotent), all-knowing (omniscient), and He is everywhere at the same time (omnipresent).
Emmanuel: God dwells with man
In order to redeem man from sin and condemnation, God the Son volunteered to come down to earth to save man. To save man from the consequences of Adam’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden including retrieving man’s authority and dominion from the devil. God’s ultimate intention was to reconcile man back to Himself and to restore the sweet relationship He once enjoyed with Adam.
Jesus was born as a Child to Mary and Joseph of Galilee, He grew in wisdom and stature and dwelt among men.
God lived with man- Emmanuel! Matthew 1:23.
Jesus Christ of Nazareth
While on earth Jesus Christ though having His deity privileges, functioned as a man anointed with the Holy Spirit. He was a person. This was God the Son manifested in the flesh (John 1:14). The implications of this were that He didn’t fully express all of His deity attributes, for one, He could not be everywhere at the same time and He depended on God the Father..
“who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.“
Philippians 2:6-8 NKJV
Jesus spent His time on earth teaching and preaching about the Kingdom of God and doing good works wherever He went. However, the world and its system didn’t like Him- as far as they could see, Jesus’s teachings threatened the very fabric of their existence- their beliefs, traditions and practices. For one, Abraham’s blessing was their sole inheritance. Abraham was their Father and the blessings of Abraham were theirs alone to enjoy. Everything will work out just fine, when the Messiah comes. This guy Jesus, looked nothing like him.
Probably more importantly to them was the fact that their authority and places of leadership and command/respect, seemed to be usurped by the teachings of Jesus. So they sought to shut Him out, end His works, erase His name from history. Willingly or unwillingly, even so unanimously, they falsely accused, captured, tortured and crucified Jesus Christ of Nazareth. He was buried in a sealed and heavily guarded tomb. Oh! But 3 days later, God the Father raised Him up from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit.
He Is Risen! Christ Is Risen!!!
The Pentecost: Forty Days after….
40 days after His resurrection, just as He promised, the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, Teacher, Guide, Helper, descended on earth, on the disciples, filling and enabling them to do mighty works, far more works than Jesus did. He is our Helper, Counselor, Comforter, He neither leaves nor forsake us, He abides with us forever (John 14:16, John 16:13-15).
Now God is In Man!
And now….A Mystery revealed!
A mystery is something hidden. Something that is difficult or impossible to understand or explain. A mystery is hidden for a purpose; it must be revealed; it needs to be understood. A mystery is an answer to a problem (Ephesians 3:3-5).
First Timothy 3:16 speaks of a great mystery…that God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached not just to the Jews, but to Gentiles as well. He was preached and believed beyond Jewish boundaries, yes, extending to the whole world. Yes, in this dispensation of grace, non-Jews (Gentiles), can become fellow heirs and partakers of God’s promise to Abraham (Ephesians 3:2-6).
This mystery hidden from the beginning of ages in God, with the intention of displaying the manifold wisdom of God through the Church (those who heard, believed and follow Christ) to all powers, places and people, that they may know that- God is All-wise, all-knowing, all-powerful and yes, again All of the God-head (including Christ) is everywhere (Ephesians 3:9-12).
So now, all people, in all places and everywhere, can carry Christ around everywhere because He dwells in them by the Holy Spirit. They can be strengthened with might in their inner man, be rooted and grounded in love and be able to comprehend the extent of the love of Christ, being filled with the Fullness of God because they carry in themselves, the hope of glory- Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:26-27).
Truly if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory (I Corinthians 2:7-8). For indeed, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies it stands alone, but if it dies it multiplies into much grain (John 12:24).
They couldn’t shut Him out, they couldn’t put a lid on Him, they couldn’t eliminate Him, no, they couldn’t erase His name from history.
Jesus Christ is everywhere -from the Jews to the Gentiles to everywhere in the World. Uninhibited, unlimited by time or place. No longer contained or constrained. For you are Christ, and you are Christ, and I am Christ, oh yes! multiplied Christ everywhere, yet culminating into one -the Body of Christ of which Jesus Christ is the Head, forever!
Christ is in you! Hence you have hope of glory (Colossians 1:26-27).
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE ??
