It is unwise to make a decision to flout guidelines and recommendations by the CDC and/or WHO in these times.. Unfortunately, the Corona virus registered it’s presence in our lifetime. And thus far, these authorities represent the authentic source of information on the management of this pandemic. Therefore as I stated in a previous post, hand-washing, use of sanitizer quarantine or isolation are to be practiced as applicable. Everyone needs to be careful, both for themselves and for others. https://graceobomanu.com/standing-tall-amidst-covid-19-pandemic-5-things-every-believer-should-remember/
So I wash my hands regularly, use an alcoholic hand rub when necessary and practice social distancing. But I know that these careful acts can only take me so far. There will be misses and slips. I know there will be that split second when I hug someone without thinking. Surely, there will be moments when I clean sweat from my face with unwashed hands. There will be times when I long for physical fellowship with other brethren and choose to indulge. There will be times when caution and keeping off won’t be enough to shield me. I must remember in these times, that God is faithful inspite of me.
It was His faithfulness that diverted a bullet which dropped by my bedside many years ago. Rising from my bed one morning, my feet felt an unusual metal object on the floor. My husband and I weren’t really sure what it was. He taught it looked like a bullet, I hadn’t seen one before. But since it didn’t make sense how a bullet landed in our room, we simply kept it aside.
Months later as I lay face up on my pillow, looking straight into the ceiling, a hole, not bigger than the size of that bullet stared at me. The sun ray traveled right through the rooftop to the opening visible on the ceiling, giving away the slit. It was only then that I made a quick connection to the piece of metal I stepped on some months back. Apparently, a stray bullet made its way to my bedside. Here is a thought to consider….if the sun rays passed through the bullet hole to the exact level of my focus as I lay on the bed, whose position has remained unchanged, where was it headed? That would be ….my face….head…..Oh! but while I slept, Jesus diverted it. He would’t even let me lose sleep because of a misdirected weapon. And I had a very good night sleep. . So I know I can only be ‘this‘ careful.
His faithfulness saved my husband and I from unknown armed men on our way home 2 Christmas ago. They blocked our car with theirs, ordered us to alight at gunpoint. But my husband chose to do a reverse. And then bullets came spraying all over our car as we attempted to escape our assailants. Being that I was seated on the passenger seat, I found myself in ‘the line of fire’. Oh! but we got away unhurt. The only sign of an assault being a flat back tyre and a bullet hole in the fuel (gas) tank area. Yet no fire, no smoke., no wounds, no life lost. As my Pastor rightly put it; ‘Jesus sent angels to catch all the bullets‘. So I know, I can only be ‘this‘ careful. For He who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.
Indeed, I can share many more testimonies of the Lord’s mighty deliverance and faithfulness. And I am sure you have yours too. These were moments when ‘Careful‘ wouldn’t change a thing. So as I wash my hands several times a day, use my hand sanitizer randomly, and make efforts to maintain both social and physical distancing, I know that I can only be ‘THIS‘ careful.
I choose to Trust in His Faithfulness. And I am reminded of 2 Thessalonians 3:3
“But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you [setting you on a firm foundation] and will protect and guard you from the evil one.”
