Righteousness means right standing with God. A righteous person is not just forgiven but reckoned as not having sinned. Righteousness is not earned by works; nor by keeping a set of rules, laws or principles, no, righteousness is a free gift received by faith at the new birth. Everyone who has confessed Jesus as Lord and Savior is righteous. By living in obedience to God’s word, the righteous man’s reflects holiness and exemplifies a life of righteousness (Romans 5:1, Romans 5:17-18, Romans 1:17, Philippians 3:9, 1 Timothy 6:11, 1 Corinthians 1:30, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 1 John 2:29, Isaiah 32:17).
According to the Bible, there is “The Way of The Righteous”, which is the expected life pathway or “lifecycle” of a righteous person. Proverbs 4:18 narrates the life journey of the righteous…
“The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day.”
Proverbs 4:18 NLT
Proverbs 4:18 is simply saying that the life pathway of a righteous person unfolds gradually and progressively, increasing in clarity of purpose, intensity and impact until it peaks. This life pathway is being likened to the pattern and progress of the sun.
The solar path or sun’s arc on a given day is essentially the same every given day. Except for minor variations in the specific path of the sun which occur in different seasons, the daily motion of the sun is that it rises from the east at dawn, shines in increasing intensity till around midday when it begins to set and eventually settle in the west. In a similar way, the life of the righteous has a starting point- begins at the new birth, and progresses with increasing clarity, intensity and impact until a peak point is reached (a point of maximum impact), before it starts to wane and eventually sets (the person dies).
While this pattern of progression is what is expected of the righteous, unfortunately not every Christian will walk this path. Psalm 1:1-2 gives two prerequisites for the righteous to walk in this path…
- He must delight in the word of God- meditating in it day and night.
- He must shun ungodly associations- does not take counsel from the ungodly, does not follow the way of sinners and is not scornful. Psalms 1:1-2 NKJV
In a way, these 2 prerequisites seem to differentiate the life outcome of a righteous person in contrast to that of the unrighteous whose lifecycle is summarized as “chaff” that is easily blown away by wind.
Child of God you are made for impact, success and prosperity. If you are the righteous described in Psalms 1:1-3 , you will enjoy stability, nourishment, flourishing, freshness, fruitfulness, success and prosperity. And as your purpose unfolds and becomes clearer in God, your impact will continue to increase until it reaches its divinely set point.
Friends, the righteous has a hope and a future in God, an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11).
This is our heritage as children of God !
No Fear Here !! Just stay in the Word, do the Word and Walk in the Spirit.

AMEN (Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”)
