Man is a spirit, he has a soul and lives in a body. The spirit is the part of man that is born anew at the new birth (John 3:6, 2 Corinthians 5:17, John 1:13, John 4:24, 1 John 5:1). The body doesn’t get born again, however we will have new bodies in Heaven (2 Corinthians 5:1-6). In the interim, while we live in this world, we need to nourish and take care of our bodies even as we trust that the Holy Spirit maintains a steady supply of life to our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11). The soul is not born again either, and Romans 12:2, admonishes us to renew our minds with God’s Word. So, where is the mind?
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2. NKJV
Where Is The Mind?
Where is the mind? The mind is a component of the soul, and the soul is composed of the mind, the will and the emotions. This means that our thought bank, decision making power and our feelings are domiciled in the soulish part of us. No gainsaying then that our battles in life occur in our soul.
Fighting the battle in the soul
God does not tamper with man’s will; He guides us on the best part to follow, but He never forces us to do anything. Our will and decision making is entirely ours.
Our feelings are mostly dependent on our responses to the external world. We choose how to respond.
There is an active thought process going on in our minds at every point in time.
The battle in the soul is whether to yield to the external stimuli from the senses or to those from the recreated spirit (Galatians 5: 16-21).
How do we know what the mind is up to?
The Mind is our thought bank and it receives information from our spirit and our senses (body). The Mind plays a critical role in our lives one because it is our thought bank, and two because even our will and emotions find expression through the mind as Words and/or Actions.
Thoughts are communicated as Words and/or Actions.
Our words, actions, character, attitudes, communicates what’s on our mind.
See what Proverbs 23:7 says;
“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, But his heart is not with you.” Proverbs 23:7, NKJV
Also see Proverbs 4:23 …..
“Above all, be careful what you think because your thoughts control your life.” Proverbs 4:23, ERV
Friends, the Mind plays a critical role in our lives. We have to guard it, be careful what we expose it to and we have to consciously renew the mind with God’s Word so that we are portraying the good, acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2).
Here is a short bible study video on the what and where the mind is. Shalom!
