Belshazzar was astounded by the writing on the wall during his great feast. In this article written by a 12-year old, you will gain some insights on this story with background in the book of Daniel chapter 5:1-5
Bible References:
- Daniel 5:1-5;
- Daniel 5: 7-8;
- Daniel 5: 10-12;
- Daniel 5: 16-22;
- Daniel 5: 24-30
Points to Note:
- Belshazzar took the vessels although he knew they were from God’s temple. He not only gave his wives, but his CONCUBINES to drink wine which had been sacrificed to idols in God’s vessels
- He offered such a high price for anyone who would interprete the writing on the wall. But there was nobody.
- It was his mother, the queen, who advised him to consult Daniel.
- Daniel refused the king’s gifts but still delivered the interpretation, without mincing words.
- Despite his gifts being declined, Belshazzar still gave Daniel the reward promised.
What This Means:
- God is not lenient with any mockery of Himself.
- No matter how much power you think you have, nothing will go right unless God wills it.
- Mothers are wise in their age; they always have the best advice. Even if you don’t like what they have to say, there would be some fraction of truth in it which makes it useful.
- You may not have any regard for someone, but it is always good to be polite and kind.
- If you make a promise, do your utmost best to fulfill it; it’s a covenant, not just empty words.
Prayer:
Dear God,
Do not allow me to be so proud of my achievements to make mockery of You. Help me listen more to my parents, and to be helpful even when it doesn’t benefit me. Help me keep my promises and covenants. Amen.
