Faith believes for the invisible, true faith operates by believing without seeing.
What Is Faith?
“NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].“ Hebrews 11:1 (AMPC)
Faith is a state of believe, conviction, assurance, confidence that is based on what God’s Word says.
We can tease out 3 important truths about faith from Hebrews 11:1
- Faith is a state of believe, conviction, assurance, confidence that is based on God’s Word.
- Faith is the evidence of biblical Hope
- Faith believes for the invisible.
Faith Believes for the Invisible
The object of faith is very real spiritually to the spirit man, however it is not visible to the physical eyes.
Faith perceives things which are not tangible to the human senses as real. This means that with faith, believing comes before seeing.
In Mark 11:24, Jesus says we are to believe that we have received whatever we are praying for, at the time of prayer, not when we see the answers to our prayers with our physical eyes, and not after we’ve expereinced them.
“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” Mark 11:24 NKJV
In John 20:26-29, Jesus scolded Thomas; ‘Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed’.
“And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” [27] Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.” [28] And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” [29] Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:26-29 NKJV
If you always look for facts or evidence before believing, you will struggle with faith. You can learn how to improve on this attitude towards life in this video.

Thank you for exploring the concept of faith, and emphasising the importance of believing without seeing. Like you mentioned, Hebrews 11:1 highlights faith as the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of their reality, even when not revealed to the senses.
Faith is based on God’s Word and serves as evidence of biblical hope.
Additionally, faith is portrayed as believing in the invisible, perceiving spiritual truths as real before they are physically manifested. Examples from scripture, such as Jesus’ admonition to Thomas, underscore the value of believing without seeing. It clear that relying solely on facts or evidence can hinder one’s ability to exercise faith, and we are encouraged to cultivate a mindset of faith in our lives.
My take – Faith involves believing in the unseen and trusting in the promises of God, even in the absence of physical evidence. It reminds me that faith is not dependent on what we can perceive with our senses but is rooted in a deep conviction of God’s truth. By embracing faith, we can experience the fulfilment of God’s promises in our lives and cultivate a mindset that opens us up to the miraculous and unseen aspects of God’s work.
