“who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.“
I Peter 2:24 NKJV
When you read “By whose stripes you were healed” in First Peter 2:24, do you sometimes think that this healing is not physical, it is only spiritual?
Well, what does the Bible say?
Jesus became sick with every sickness and disease that could ever come upon us, and in exchange, He got us divine healing.
In the beginning, God made man in His image; just as He is. However through Adam’s disobedience, sin entered the world, corrupted man’s divine nature, leading to spiritual death and a seperation from God (Genesis 2:17, Romans 5:12).
Sin, death and the curse; including sickness (Deuteronomy 28:16-68), were repercussions of Adam’s simple act of disobedience.
The law seemed to have been given in order to help man live right before God, however the law only ended up showing man that he can never live a life that pleases God through his efforts (Romans 3:20).
That’s why Jesus came; to destroy the works of darkness (1 John 3:8), abolish the requirements of the law (Colossians 2:14), take away the curse (Galatians 3:13-14), and instead of that sin/ death experience, He introduced the grace/life way of living (Romans 5:20-22, John 10:10, 1 Corinthians 15:22).
-the power of sin was broken
-the curse was taken away
-death was rendered powerless
– the punishment from not keeping the law was taken away.
Instead of sin and death, we now have Grace and Life in Jesus Christ….
“Sin once used death to rule us, but God gave us more of His grace so that grace could rule by making us right with Him. And this brings us eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 5:21 ERV
Halleluyah!
As we see in Galatians 3:13-14, by becoming a curse Himself, Jesus took away the curse…
“The law says we are under a curse for not always obeying it. But Christ took away that curse. He changed places with us and put himself under that curse. The Scriptures say, “Anyone who is hung on a tree is under a curse.” Because of what Jesus Christ did, the blessing God promised to Abraham was given to all people. Christ died so that by believing in him we could have the Spirit that God promised.”
Galatians 3:13-14 ERV
Now just as Jesus became a curse for us so that we might now enjoy the blessings of Abraham (Galatians 3:13-14), that’s how He also took on every sickness and infirmity that can ever come to us…..
“The fact is, it was our suffering he took on himself; he bore our pain. But we thought that God was punishing him, that God was beating him for something he did. But he was being punished for what we did. He was crushed because of our guilt. He took the punishment we deserved, and this brought us peace. We were healed because of his pain.”
Isaiah 53:4-5 ERV
Friends, we were healed by His stripes.
Just as you believe that you are saved by faith, that’s how you should believe that Jesus healed you by His stripes. And just as you can testify that your born again experience has impacted your daily life and way of living, that’s how you should believe, confess and maintain that you have been healed by the Stripes of Jesus and therefore you are healed.
He whom the Son (Jesus) makes free is free indeed. Yes, Jesus set you free from sickness and disease, and so believe it, that you are healed.
It is through faith (mixed with patience) that we inherit every promise from God, and claim/possess every benefit. Divine healing is a benefit of being in Christ Jesus, claim it today by faith.
There’s nothing wrong with going to the hospital to get medical help, but make up your mind as you go, that you won’t stay on a hospital bed for too long. Keep believing, speaking, and acting like someone who was healed by the stripes of Jesus. At some point you’ll need to get off that hospital bed and start taking baby steps by faith and over time, you’ll find that you can walk about comfortably, perfectly restored to good health.
By His Stripes we were healed
By His Stripes we were healed
By His Stripes we were healed
Halleluyah, praise God!
