Psalm 107 is a beautiful psalm of Thanksgiving. It enumerates and covers different situations and circumstances anyone can find themselves in, in this life, for which they can and should be thankful for God’s intervention.
My focus today is on verses 15 and 16. Psalm 107:15-16 KJV
“Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! For He hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.”
Psalm 107:15-16 KJV
Can you use your imagination a bit and think about a GATE, and BARS of surrounding Iron. That would give a picture of a CAGE or PRISON.
So in these 2 verses the Psalmist speaks of a set of people who should praise God because they were ONCE confined to a space but they became free because God intervened and liberated them
To what can we liken the Gates of Brass and Bars of iron of Psalm 107?
- May not be a physical prison
- Refers to any form of bondage
- Some sicknesses
- Addictions
- Poverty
- Fear- of death, bankruptcy, failure, over the future, etc
The psalmist is saying, whatever form of bondage you may be in today, PRAISE GOD, for He has broken the gates of brass
If It Is Brass, It is Not Original
I am so glad that the Psalmist was careful enough to call it the Gate of BRASS, because it is a FALSE gate. This is not the kind of Gate that God can use sometimes to shut out problems, no, it’s a gate that shuts you in, restricts, restrains, inhibits you. You were put, caged and bounded in that gate so that your destiny would be thwarted, so you won’t fulfill purpose, so you won’t attain full potential in God.
But look, the Psalmist says, Praise The Lord for the Gates are Broken! They are Broken!!!
The restraint has been removed.
The Prison Is Destroyed
See, God didn’t only remove the the false gates, no, He cut the bars of Iron Asunder. Halleluyah!
Let me Ask you, if a prison gate is broken down, can the prisoners not safely walk out of the prison? YES THEY CAN. But yet, the Psalmist says, God broke down the Gates, and He cut the Bars, Asunder. Halleluyah! What does this tell us? The entire Prison was brought down! Halleluyah! It does not exist anymore. He removed the Gates, He cut down the bars of Iron. The Prison don’t exist anymore. Halleluyah!
See The Prison Destroyed By Faith
You say, ‘Oh Grace, you said, the prison can represent sickness, addictions, demonic oppressions, well, I still feel sick, I just finished indulging in that addictive act”, etc etc…
What does the Psalmist say; He said Praise God FOR (BECAUSE) He has broken the Gate and cut the bars.
He didn’t say, praise Him WHEN you feel like He has done it. Or Praise Him IF He does it, but praise Him, for He has done it!!
Do you believe that He has done it? You cannot praise Him if you cannot see that He has done it.
You say when did He do it?
It was not today
It was not yesterday
It was not last week
Jesus Set The Captives Free
He made a provision for your liberation even before the enemy thought to put the cage around you. Jesus broke every chain when He died, was buried and resurrected. Through that whole process, every chain was broken. He moved you out of every chain even before the enemy tried to put you there. That’s why it’s a false gate. It is a fake gate of brass.
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:1-3 NKJV
If you lying on a sick bed right now, waiting for God to heal you, I say wait no more, FOR By His Stripes You WERE healed. It’s already done. Get up and move. Get up and live.
Get up and walk out of that bondage. It’s fake, it’s false, it’s broken, it’s been destroyed. Don’t let the enemy hold you bound through deception.
The Gates of Brass are Broken
The prison of addiction has been destroyed.
The bondage of poverty was taken away
The cage of fear was removed.
Walk right on
You’re a free man.
Halleluyah!
