“In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.”
Matthew 5:45 NLT
One of the greatest and exciting revelations I have received in my Christian life is that “I am a Child of God“. The Most High God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth is my Father! As far as I can see there’s nothing more honorable than this; I am born of God! Halleluyah!
The Father loves me, He watches over me, He looks out for me, He has the best plan for my life. I am truly special, and you are too, because He is your Father also. For as many as have received Jesus as Lord and Saviour, enjoy the Fatherhood of God. Halleluyah!
In Mathew chapter 5, the Lord Jesus shares some characteristics of the Father, and interestingly He believes I can act just as the Father does…
“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For He gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.”
Matthew 5:43-48 NLT
The Father is good and kind to all (the good, the bad and ugly). Love is His nature and He loves unconditionally.
So yes, I am forever thankful to be a child of God, to be loved, nurtured, shielded, provided for, by Him. But then I also want to be a true reflection of my Father….Jesus believed I could…
I want to love like He loves, not only those who love me, but even those who hate me.
I want to pray for everyone, not just my friends and family, but also for those who strongly oppose and persecute me.
I want to be kind to everyone; not just to those who extend kind gestures towards me, but also to those whom I see working so hard to undo me.
I want to do good to everyone, everywhere.
I want to be a true child of my Father.
True children of the Father are just as kind, forgiving, generous, good, just as He is.
Are you one of them? Jesus thought you could be.
