“Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I chose you for a special work. I chose you to be a prophet to the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5 ERV
Knowing and walking in your purpose gives a sense of direction, shapes goals, guides life choices, creates meaning. A purpose marks the difference between making a living and living a fulfilled life. At some point in life, in order to have a sense of fulfillment, one must ask and answer the question; ‘what is my purpose in life?’
What Is A Purpose?
Purpose is the reason for which something or someone was created, the reason something or someone exists.
For example; the primary purpose of a knife is to cut. There are different types of knives; Chef’s knife, Utility knife, the Japanese Santoku knife, Boning knife, Kitchen shears, etc. These different kinds of knives may be dedicated to a specific use or be versatile. The sharp blades, shapes and contouring of each type of knife makes it suitable for each task. But essentially, each type of knife must be able to cut.
You Were Made For A Purpose
God says of Jeremiah, “I Made You in your mother’s womb….I chose you for a special work”
Millions of people would give anything to know the purpose for their existence. Little wonder we have seers, palm readers, astrological charts, etc. Some persons would love to have someone they respect and highly regard categorically say to them “a” or “b” is your purpose in life. The purpose of a thing is best determined by its maker, creator or manufacturer.
I am not an evolutionist, I believe the Holy Bible’s account of creation. And so I believe that God created every human, and He made everyone for a purpose. You were created for a purpose.
If God is your Maker, then He’s the only one who knows the purpose for your life.
Your Purpose Answers To A Divine Need.
From what we read from Jeremiah chapter 1 verse 5, God says He KNEW Jeremiah BEFORE he was conceived. And that Jeremiah was made to be a PROPHET to NATIONS .
Jeremiah was an answer to a need in God’s mind. A need to benefit the whole of mankind. So God first conceived a need in mind then He proceeded to making someone who would perfectly meet that need for Him. That’s how Jeremiah came about. And that is how you came about too. You are not a mistake; you fit perfectly somewhere.
It doesn’t really matter the circumstance of your birth- whether you were born in or out of wedlock, or you were the product of a rape or any such mistakes, whether you were born with a silver or wooden spoon, ….friend, you were made for a purpose, you are an answer to a need in your world.
Your Purpose Will Always Be Bigger Than You
It is possible for one man to influence a few friends, be the breadwinner for his family through personal strength and achievements. But how can one individual reach NATIONS by his own ability?
Your purpose will always be bigger than what your natural ability or achievements can accomplish, it requires a divine enablement, wisdom and strategy to get done.
Your Purpose Sets You Apart
Jeremiah was made for a SPECIAL work. He wasn’t the only prophet sent out by God to humanity, yet Jeremiah’s work was Special.
You could be a very versatile person, with easy adaptability and many competencies, yet, there is that one thing you are unique for.
Friend, there is that one thing that;
- Gives you peace
- For which you have to rely on the creator/manufacturer to accomplish
- Which goes beyond you, to meet the needs of others.
- Which you are ready to do with or without any obvious gain or reward.
- Which gives you a sense of fulfillment.
Yielding To Your Divine Purpose Brings Satisfaction.
Jesus said in John 4:34, that His FOOD was to do the will of the Father. What He was actually saying was that doing the Father’s will and purpose satisfies Him.
You can be wealthy and yet not satisfied or fulfilled. You can be at the pinnacle of your career and yet seeking meaning in life. However when you walk in and do the will and purpose of God for your life, you experience true fulfilment and satisfaction.
Walking In Your Purpose, Situates You In God’s Employ
By yielding to God’s purpose Jeremiah SERVED a divine need? He WORKED for God!
When you work for God, you are God’s responsibility.
God directed ravens to feed Elijah at a brook for a while and later a widow sustained him for many days (1 Kings 17:2-16). It is entirely God’s prerogative how He chooses to meet your needs, you just present then and trust Him.
If God Himself says that a labourer is worthy of his wages, then He knows to pay and take care of those who work for Him (Luke 10:7). God is not unjust, so SURELY, He rewards your labour of love towards Him and mankind (Hebrews 6:10).
The office of a prophet is a position of honor (Mark 6:4). Even so, whatever your God-given purpose is, it will bring you honor.
Child of God, you were made for a purpose. Your purpose is found in God. It goes beyond you, to profit your world. You need divine enablement to fulfill your God-given purpose. Your purpose will bring you honor, provision and goodwill. You can only find and fulfill your purpose satisfactorily in God.
I pray you find and fulfill your purpose in God.
