Put on The Whole Armor of God (I)

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.”
Ephesians 6:10‭-‬11 NLT

To ‘put on’ is to be become clad in, to dress in, to don, to en-robe, wear, to slip into, to be clothed in.

The word ‘whole’ describes a complete set of something, entire, total, full, unabridged, all in one piece, a unit, all of something.

An armor is usually a metal covering formally worn to protect someone IN BATTLE; a sheathing, a protection.
However the armor spoken of in this text, is not a metallic piece but a spiritual covering.

We can say then that to ‘Put on The Whole Armor of God’ is to be totally, completely, fully dressed (and protected) with God’s spiritual covering.

Why do we need to put on the whole armor of God?

To enable us stand firm against all the STRATEGIES of the devil.

Satanic forces may come directly at you attempting to inhibit and limit you, but really sometimes people come at you with so much hatred and resentment, often leaving you with a temptation to see them as your enemies. However, Ephesians 6:12 tells us that we are NOT fighting against FLESH AND BLOOD. Meaning that the people who war and fight against you are not really your true enemy, therefore your fight shouldn’t really be against them but against;
▪️principalities and powers, ▪️rulers of the darkness of this age, and
▪️spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6:12 NLT

The good news though is that Jesus defeated the whole bunch of them. And He did it for you and I….

       “In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.“
Colossians 2:15 NLT

So in a sense all we really need to do is stand in the victory Christ already won.

According to Apostle Paul, the way to successfully stand against all forms of strategies, tricks, gimmicks of the devil (and his cohorts) is to Put on The Whole of God.

What are the components of the whole armor of God?

It is a total head-to-toe covering;
▪️the helmet of salvation,
▪️the breastplate of righteousness
▪️the girdle of the truth
▪️the boots of peace,
▪️the shield of faith, and
▪️the sword of the Spirit, which is the spoken Word of God.
Without forgetting to pray in the Spirit for all saints everywhere with all perseverance and supplication.
(Ephesians 6:14-18).
