“He who is slothful in his work Is a brother to him who is a great destroyer.“ Proverbs 18:9 NKJV
A slothful person is a lazy person. The dictionary describes such a one as indolent, inactive, idle.
Proverbs 18:9 associates a slothful person with a destroyer, suggesting that slothfulness can be destructive.
Jesus was all about the Father’s Business, He was passionate about it, He was driven by it, He lived for it and He delivered on it. Christians should not be identified with slothfulness, the Father’s Business calls on us every day.
What Is The Father’s Business ?
“And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” Luke 2:49 NKJV
“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.“
Acts 10:38 NKJV
“..…I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10b NKJV.
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” John 17:3 NKJV
From the above 4 scriptures, we can say that Jesus Christ came to make the Father known us and that through Him (Christ), we might have eternal life. The signs and miracles were done to aid belief (Luke 10:13). This is what the Father’s business is about- preaching, teaching, healing and getting people into a close relationship with the Father.
Be committed to the Father’s Business
Jesus delivered on His mandate. That’s why we can enjoy all the rights and privileges of being God’s sons. And like the great leader that He is, Jesus committed the same mandate He came down to earth to accomplish to His followers (Mathew 28:18-20, Luke 10:17-21). We have authority in the name of Jesus to get the job done (Mark 16:16-17).
How well are you doing with this mandate? Don’t be slothful about the Father’s Business. Get others to know and also enjoy all that the Father has freely given to us through Christ.
Preach the gospel; tell someone about the Father’s love today. Live an exemplary Christian life. Be kind, share the love of Jesus with someone today. Serve in your local Church; it is your Father’s house.
Do something about the Father’s business today. Jesus is counting on you.
