“Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees, and said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” So he went up and looked, and said, “There is nothing.” And seven times he said, “Go again.” Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, “There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’ ” Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel.”
I Kings 18:41-45 NKJV
Rains are significant because they bear a newness and freshness to them. Especially following a period of drought, rains would seem like a washing away of the old and regrowing of something new, something better.
After a period of drought, rains restore hope; there’s more likelihood for productivity, growth, fruitfulness, life. Rains are often used to imply an outpouring of God’s goodness in great measures. All this is possible because rains water the earth (ground), cause it to bud, flourish and to yield seed.
When Elijah proclaimed the coming of the rains, he more like set himself up because there wasn’t any obvious sign of rain at the time. But he didn’t give up; he’d experienced God personally and so he was confident that he’d see the manifestation of his faith proclamation. And he did! Rains in the time of drought is Great News!!
Are there ‘drought’ situations in your life right now? Do you know that more than Elijah you can declare that the rains are here because of the power of God in you and in the name of Jesus?
Deuteronomy 11:14 tells us about the importance of former and latter rains…
“…then I will give you the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil”. NKJV.
Elijah’s rain was physical, however Deuteronomy 11:14 can also mean supernatural provision of Essentials, Luxury and Abundance.
Notice that the Grain, New Wine and Oil are guaranteed once the rains pour down. So if the former and latter rains come in different seasons (early and latter), and the 2 bring in grain, new wine and oil, then it’s possible to never be out of supply of these things. Early season grains provide seed for the latter rain to water so that the cycle of provision never stops.
Every day can be a good day to enjoy grain, new wine and oil- to have our Basic needs met, to have our Desires met and to continue to be a Steady source of supply to others. Halleluyah!
