Victory Through Faith
“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.“
I John 5:4 NKJV
A. Understanding Faith
1. Defining Faith
Despite it’s central place in Christendom, Faith is still an often misunderstood principle. “Faith is Equal …to” an article I published a few years back, provides a very simple explanation of faith. Do read up on it.
Below is my definition of faith…..
Faith is the assurance, confidence, conviction, confirmation that we have the things we desire and hope for (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is to believe without doubt.
“Now FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].”
Hebrews 11:1 AMPC
Faith is;…..I BELIEVE.
Do you believe the Word of God? Are you patterning your life according to your believe?
2. Faith Is Now
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1 NKJV
‘Now‘ by dictionary definition means at the present time or moment.
Many believers only pull faith off the shelf during crisis and immediately put it back on the shelf once the period of crisis is over. This is not only a wrong application of faith, it is not a way to live victoriously.
To have victory through faith, faith must be understood as being for every split second, every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every week, every month, every year, every time. Faith is NOW.
Given that we are not to live in fear of the devil, not at all, but he is still out there roaming around like a roaring lion; ‘as the adversary of our faith‘, he always ‘comes‘ (albeit dumbly), he is always roaming seemingly aimlessly yet aiming at those in the Will of God (and therefore those against him). We must therefore have the Word ready on our lips as a shield to successfully thwart and quench every fiery dart from the enemy (Ephesians 6:18).
There is an opportunity to act in faith today in your life- work, marriage, relationships, academics, etc. Don’t let it slip. Enjoy victory through faith.
3. Faith Is Like Air To The Believer
The just/righteous shall live by faith.
“Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”
Hebrews 10:38 NKJV
Faith is like the oxygen/air to a Believer in Jesus Christ.
Just as people cannot live without air or oxygen, a Believer cannot live without faith.
“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
Romans 1:17 NKJV
The righteous became righteous by faith and he continues his Christian living by faith. He lives in victory through faith.
Indeed, the righteous without faith shall die, but we know that death is not identifiable with God. Jesus came to give us life, and life is what God wants for us.
As a righteous man, woman, boy or girl, you must fully embrace faith in order to maximize the benefits of your righteousness and belief.
4. Faith Comes By Hearing The Word Of God
According to Romans 10:14, the prerequisite for believing in the Lord Jesus and making a decision to be saved is that the good news of Jesus Christ must be heard, meaning that it has to be preached, taught or shared by someone…
“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”
Romans 10:14 NKJV
Faith begins where the will of God is known. The Word of God is His will. So faith comes by knowing the Word of God.
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.“
Romans 10:17 NKJV
So every time we expose ourselves to the Word of God, we are tapping into the realm of faith.
To always have a boost in our faith for everyday victory, we must be continually exposed to the Word of God- by reading it, studying it, listening to it, etc
5. The Mechanics/dynamics of faith.
In this article “The Dynamics/Mechanics Of Faith” I share how to get faith working for you.
In Mark 11:22-24, Jesus teaches on how faith works….
“So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”
Mark 11:22-24 NKJV
…..says…..believes…..says…..believes….no doubting……believe. This is how faith works.
We become followers of Christ by faith (Romans 10:9-10), and we continue to live as Christ followers by faith.
“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.“
Romans 10:9-10 NKJV
Believe……Confess (say). And what you believe and speak of, you will act on.
What are you believing God for? What are you saying about what you believe? And what are you doing about what you say you believe?
Faith is activated through words (Mark 11:24) powered by love (James 2:26 NKJV) and anchored by hope (Hebrews 6:19).
Faith is;…..I BELIEVE, therefore I SPEAK and I DO.
6. Levels Of Faith
At salvation, everyone receives the same measure of faith. However, through scriptures we find mention of different levels of faith….
Little faith–Matthew 16:8; Matthew 14:31.
Great faith–Matthew 15:28; Matthew 8:10.
7. Faith Pleases God
Without faith it is impossible to please God
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.“
Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
“Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”
Hebrews 10:38 NKJV
Put simply; without believing and saying, it is impossible to please God. God is pleased when we act on what we’ve heard, believe and say. And when God is pleased, we are sure to receive all we ask of Him.
When God was pleased with Solomon, He granted Solomon’s heart desires…
“The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.“
I Kings 3:10-12 NKJV
8. Faith Reveals The Righteousness Of God
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
Romans 1:16-17 NKJV
The gospel of Christ reveals the righteousness of God. The gospel of Christ is everything the Word of God is about. The whole Word of God is about Christ. Christ is the Word. Halleluyah!!
Faith reveals the righteousness of God and the faith to reveal the righteousness of God comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. Without the Word, there will be no stimulus to act in faith and without acting in faith, the righteousness/faithfulness/wholeness of God cannot be experienced.
Halleluyah!
