The whole armor of God is the complete set of Christian protective gear consisting of salvation, righteousness, trust (in the word), peace, faith and the spoken Word, worn always in order to withstand or resist the devil.
To put on the whole armor of God is to be continually conscious of, and unflinchingly committed to proclaiming who we are and what we have in Christ while living in this reality. The reality that we are born of God, we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, that the Word of God is our truth, that we have the peace that Jesus gives, and that all of God’s promises in Christ are yeah and amen (and we have them).
Like we stated in Part 4, the armor of God is not a combative tool, no, we are not fighting with the enemy, rather we stand in the victory that Christ has already won for us.
Our reference scripture has been…
“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Ephesians 6:13-17 NLT
Please read up on the Helmet of Salvation in Part 3 and the Breastplate of Righteousness in Parts 4 and 5.
Today we continue with another component of this armor; the belt of truth.
The Belt of Truth
Do you believe in the absolute integrity of the Word of God? Do you believe that the Word of God is the Truth and nothing else but the Truth? Do you believe that the Bible was written by men as they were inspired by God? (2 Timothy 3:16) When you read ‘by His Stripes we were healed‘ do you believe it irrespective of the obvious symptoms in your body? Even if you have to go to the doctor or take medications, do you still believe that by His Stripes you were healed? Do you believe the Word of God? Can you stake your life on it?
People don’t just suddenly backslide. No, the enemy walks them through a process of progressively shredding apart the Word of God. And he does it through manipulation; citing their own life experiences and situations. When you find yourself thinking; ‘am I really healed?’, ‘am I really rich?’, ‘is God really there?’, ‘did God really inspire the writing of the Bible?’, ‘if God were really true, would he have allowed my son to die?’, ‘if there was really a God, would there be this level of chaos in the world?’, etc. When you start harbouring these kinds of thoughts, recognize immediately that you’re romancing dangerously with unbelief and evil.
In Genesis chapter 3, Eve became convinced enough by the devil to believe and put his suggestions above the Word of God. Eve gave room to doubt and unbelief by considering, accepting and yielding to the enemy’s lie that God did not exactly mean what He said. That is how to doubt the integrity of the Word of God. It landed Adam and Eve outside the Garden of Eden with hardwork and labour.
In one of our recent study series; weights won’t let us run, we dealt somewhat with unbelief, unbelief is evil and will take you out of God’s will.
Jesus is the Word..
“He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.“
Revelation 19:13 NKJV
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
John 1:1-5 NKJV
The Word is the Truth..
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6 NKJV
“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”
John 17:17 NKJV
The Word of God is alive and active..
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 NKJV
The Word is eternal
“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”
Isaiah 40:8 NKJV
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”
Matthew 24:35 NKJV
Jesus is the Word, the Word is the Truth, Life and the Way to the Father.
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6 NKJV
Do you believe in the integrity of the Word of God?
To put on the belt of truth is to believe in the absolute integrity of the Word of God and to be fully persuaded and guided by the Word, giving no room to doubt or unbelief.
Put on the belt of truth, guard your loins, your heart with the Truth of the Word of God.
Thank you for joining me again on this study, next time we will continue by looking at the Shoes of Peace.
