‘At least 22,000 babies are abandoned in US hospitals after birth’, so says a recent federal study. Some reasons why this happens include poverty, teenage motherhood, rape or abuse. The good news for these babies is that in many cases, the State takes custody. But we’re never told the hurt of a mother who couldn’t take care of her own.
On one of my very busy days at work, I missed the pick up time for my last child. It was only on my way home that my brain did a reset to my workdays routine of … stop over at her school, pick her up before heading home. Ofcourse I incurred extra minder charges, but that was the least of my problems. Icecream and some snacks got my child all cheerful again, but as a mother I never forgot. Two sets of alarm on my phone for every working day will first remind me to start shutting down, second to head out.
I’ve met and counseled with a few young people who I’d say were still unsettled with life inspite of all they’ve achieved. One parent or the other walked away in their childhood years and never turned back until later now …..in their young adult lives.
We readily find statistics on child abandonment, abortion, abuse etc, however there are not many documented information on the hurt a mother or parent feels for having to abandon, forget, or lose a child. Even as legitimate as some of the reasons provided for why these things happen may be, some people would still judge these actions as inexcusable.
In Isaiah 49:15, God leaves no room for excuse, He makes a firm promise that He will never forget or abandon His own…
“Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee”
Isaiah 49:15 KJV
God never forgets or abandons His Own.
“…….for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
Hebrews 13:5b KJV
If you’re feeling lost, it is not God who walked away, retrace your steps back to Him, to His wide opened arms.
If you are feeling all alone, confused or dejected, you’ve probably disconnected from His Word. It’s in His Word you find hope, wisdom and direction.
If you are feeling anxious about tomorrow or the future, remember Philippians 4:6, have you committed your thoughts, desires or needs to Him in prayer?.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God”
Philippians 4:6 NKJV
Go to the stern of the ship, you’ll find peace there.
This new week, be confident and encouraged, be at peace, rest assured, that God Never Forgets His Own.
You are in safe hands. Oh! Just like a responsible parent is committed to providing and protecting his child, even so, no, much more than that, God is committed to you.
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!“
Matthew 7:11 NKJV
Happy Monday!
