Do you know that as a Christian, you can learn to manage your finances in a much better way? Yes, it is true. Knowing God doesn’t mean your finances should not be well managed. In fact, your faith should help you manage your money better.
Balancing family life is great, managing family money is also important to keep you debt-free, to ensure savings and a good life. A budget is one simple way to do this.
Money is not evil, everyone loves to have money in order to get things done. However, the love of money is evil.
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.“
I Timothy 6:10 NKJV
To love money is to give it much more relevance than it deserves. Money should never take the place of God in our lives.
The importance you place on money decreases when you find complete satisfaction in God. Money doesn’t bring satisfaction, however, money can help bring satisfaction to you and others.
Debt is not a preferred way of living for a Christian. The Bible says to owe no man nothing except love.
“Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.“
Romans 13:8 NKJV
So, it is always better to stay content with what you have and to stay away from borrowing money. If you can stay away from borrowing money, you will easily be able to avoid debt. So except for investment purposes, debt should be avoided.
Ways you can manage your family finances better..
Follow a budget
It’s important to have a fair balance between income and expenditure. A budget helps you do that. A family budget should contain all income and possible expenditures for specified time. This should include; your basic needs, some wants, savings, and gifts.
Consider bulk purchases
Buying in bulk helps you save some money. Not everyone can have the amount of money required to do this, but if you can, this is good practice.
Have a meal menu
A meal menu will help you arrive at a feeding budget faster. Also make room for a few adjustments so your family doesn’t become bored on a particular meal.
Grow a garden in your yard
Try to cultivate a small garden in your home. You can grow vegetables and fruits for home use and maybe for trading. Apart for subsidising on the amount you spend on some foodstuffs, gardening is also a nice recreational and exercise activity.
Teach kids about money
Teach your kids to budget, save, to avoid debts, and to share (give). Consider giving them a monthly budget then watch then manage it.
Lastly, remember, debts spoil your prospects to have a good financial life. Lead a debt-free life as much as possible. Give to others; the poor, less privilege, charity, your family, parents, etc. Give and shall be given back to you.
I hope that these few tips help you manage your family budget better.
