Today, 18th February 2020, marks my 44th year of birth.
I believe that 44 years ago God smiled as He watched a woman bring forth one of His most wonderfully and fearfully crafted beings ?. That was a moment!
Today, I can’t think of a better blogpost to share than the Best Moment of my 43rd year.
David’s Moment
David was about 13years old when he woke up one morning and sadly realised that he couldn’t move any of his limbs. He’d become quadriplegic. Prior to that morning, he’s been in good health without complaints. This morning was different. He wasn’t the only one alarmed, his whole family too. His parents rushed him to the hospital hoping to get some explanation and possibly a cure. 2/3 years down the line, David have had countless numbers of physiotherapy. It was in one such session that our paths crossed. I was in a cubicle next to his at physiotherapy.
About 2 months earlier, I’d woken up to interestingly find that I’d suffered paralysis on one side of my face and a weakness on same side of my body. I will not bore you with the events that followed that incident, but suffix to say that God, my Faithful Father remained God.
Every day I’ll hear David screaming from his cubicle during physiotherapy and my heart wouldn’t stop bleeding. Many weeks after I was discharged, I stopped over at the physio clinic just to say ‘hi’ to the staff, and there again, I heard that familiar scream, David was in pains again. The hurt and pain in my heart plateaued at that very moment. So I asked the staff and his mother politely if I could pray with him? And they obliged.
As I left David’s cubicle after praying for him, I found a corner behind a block of buildings and wept, wept and wept. How does a mother wake up to suddenly realise her 13 year old son cannot walk again? How is it that David always maintained a cheerful look apart of times I heard him screaming during physiotherapy? How has his mother coped with caring for him daily herself? Yes, I remember she always says ‘God will do it for me’ but how does she cope with all this? ….And I had so many more ‘how’s.
I asked The Lord to restore him fully.
As often as I’d remember I prayed for David, and on a few occasions I mentioned to his mom that I’d love to be visiting him at home, which she agreed to but I never got to doing it. However as it turned out, one of David’s siblings attended same school as my youngest child. This gave me more opportunities to see David as his mom always drove him down for after school pick up. She got used to saying to me ‘your son is in the car’.
As often as I saw David, I’d say I word of prayer for him and chat him up. And almost always, I’d try to give him a ‘hi five’ only to remember that he still couldn’t move his limbs.
Sometime around December last year, again I was out for afterschool pick up. I met David’s mom on the way to my child’s class and as has become her custom, she said to me ‘your son was waving you’. Initially what I heard was her usual rhetoric ‘your son is in the car’ but then I immediately realized something BIG had happened. Did she just say ‘wave’?
I wanted to weep again. Tears welled up in my eyes, I could barely contain myself enough to pick up my child before racing towards David. As I got to the car, there he was; and yes, he raised his hands and waved me again. Oh! That was the day I got my best ‘hi five’
I trust God that David will be totally restored because when we see the cloud, we expect the rains https://graceobomanu.com/when-you-see-the-cloud/
I thank You Faithful Father ❤. You are Faithful & True. I trust You for full and complete recovery for David. And I’ll yet testify that You are absolutely reliable.
